A System for Whole Stick Cane Harvesting:

نویسنده

  • THE MCCONNEL
چکیده

Arguments are presented favouring the step-wise introduction of mechanisation into cane harvesting. The multi-pass "McConnel" system of whole stick harvesting offers such a phased introduction. Three machines are introduced in the following order as labour becomes scarcer a versatile loader, a reaping aid which leaves the cane in orderly swaths "inline", and a pickup cleaner-bundler which takes in the swath tops first. The cleaner-bundler machine ("Stage TI") is described in some detail in view of its imminent introduction into the South African industry through a development agreement recently arranged with the South African Sugar Association.

Comparative Evaluation of Harvesting Systems in Sugar Cane

The aim of the present experience was to evaluate the harvesting systems on the basis of trash content of raw material and the losses of millable cane, as a consequence of the harvesting operation. The analysed harvesting alternatives include differences in mechanical, semi-mechanical and manual systems and they have been evaluated in plots of 960 m2 of a same uniform sugar cane field, the test...

Design and Implementation of SEE-Phone in SEES (Smart Environment Explorer Stick)

The mobility is a complex, yet not well understood, human cognitive process; it subtends several different tasks such as walking and orientation. The visually impaired people (VIP) mobility heavily depends on the white stick (or white cane) which however does not provide an efficient support for walking and orientation. Indeed, these two later functions implementation requires the usage of high...

The Composition of Sugarcane Juices Derived from Burnt Cane and Whole Green Cane Crop

THERE HAS been substantial interest within the Australian sugar industry in product diversification as a means to reduce its exposure to fluctuating raw sugar prices and in order to increase its commercial viability. In particular, the industry is looking at fibrous residues from sugarcane harvesting (trash) and from sugarcane milling (bagasse) for cogeneration and the production of biocommodit...

A Two-stage Stochastic Programming Model for Districting and Transportation Lot-size of Sugarcane

The transporting sugarcane from cane fields to a mill factory is a potential cost in sugarcane logistics. The poorly operating vehicle (six-wheel truck) services and transportation lot size results in lost or excess of cane supplied. In this paper, we consider the integrated districting problem of whole cane field region and transportation lot size of each cane field. We formulate the combining...

No-chain Cane Delivery

A cane harvesting system which eliminates the use of chain slings has been developed on Illovo's mill-cum-planter estate. A semi-mechanised "split harvesting system" has been adopted. Conventional type trailers are used for infield haulage which off-load loose cane into windrows on the loading banks. Grabloaders then transload the cane from the windrow into "Hilo" cane lorries for transportatio...
